MAY, 2007

LEARNING BY DEGREES

May is here! Memorial Day and Mother’s Day! How Sweet it is.

Grand Lodge is here. It will open in Orlando at the Rosen Plaza Hotel on May 27, 2007. It will continue until all necessary business and transactions are completed. We will elect our officers on Monday afternoon May 27th at approximately 2:30 PM. The issue of concern for most Masons are : The lack of residents in our Masonic Home, the rising cost of insurance for our buildings and, of course, membership.

Or lodge is doing well this year. We have gained some new members and we are working on applications for membership. Our officers are teaching the new members and they are all showing an interest in the fraternity.

We are constantly trying to collect dues from our members. This is not all about money although that is important. We are really trying to stay in touch with the membership and for most of our members the only time we hear from you is when you pay your dues. If there is a reason that you cannot pay please let us know. We can work that out. Just let us know that you want o remain a member.

We have had several change of addresses since the beginning of the year. We hear about them when your bulletin is returned. This is not only an additional cost but also many times we do not get your new address and we lose touch with the member. So, please keep in touch.

We have received 50 year certificates for Bros. Raymond Flannery, Henry Holmes, and Warren Morgan, since our last letter. Congratulations.

Our beloved Past Master Wallace Hendricks is out of the hospital and nursing home and is improving every day. Keep him in your prayers

Mother's Day

Edgar Guest

Gentle hands that never weary
    toiling in love's vineyard sweet,
Eyes that seem forever cheery
    when our eyes they chance to meet,
Tender, patient, brave, devoted,
    this is always mother's way,
Could her worth in gold be quoted
    as you think of her to-day?

There shall never be another
    quite so tender, quite so kind
As the patient little mother;
    nowhere on this earth you'll find
Her affection duplicated;
    none so proud if you are fine.
Could her worth be overstated?
    Not by any words of mine.

Death stood near the hour she bore us,
    agony was hers to know,
Yet she bravely faced it for us,
    smiling in her time of woe;
Down the years how oft we've tried her,
    often selfish, heedless, blind,
Yet with love alone to guide her
    she was never once unkind.

Vain are all our tributes to her
    if in words alone they dwell.
We must live the praises due her;
    there's no other way to tell
Gentle mother that we love her.
    Would you say, as you recall
All the patient service of her,
    you've been worthy of it all?

We are the land of the free because we are the home of the brave!

Pray for peace on this Memorial Day.

Hiram
