Hialeah Opa Locka Lodge No. 391 F&AM 150 West 20th Street, Hialeah, Florida 33014
Worshipful Master Secretary John Hardisson RW Harry B. Futch 5411 West 4th Lane P.O. Box 820302 Hialeah, FL 33012-2535 South Florida, FL (786) 553-6791 (305) 325-1230 FEBRUARY 2008 January was a busy month. We had an awards night and W Chris Knowles received his forty year certificate. W Chris has had some physical problems and it was great to see him. We also presented Brother Ignacio Figueroa with his apron. It was a beautiful evening. We heard from Brother Ken Killings over in Fort Meyers and we sent him his fifty year Certificate. He was our first perpetual members and the poet laureate of our lodge. God bless you Brother Ken. Our installation was nice. MW Joseph Shurette presided and we had a great time. We are going to have our regular stated meetings in February and we are hoping to have a Fellow craft Degree near the end of the month or in March. We have our new dining room tables and they are especially nice because the membership chipped in and bought them. You are the greatest! We had to purchase a stove and refrigerator last year. It was an unexpected expense but necessary items for our lodge. I think our stove was 24 years old. There seems to be some question among our membership about per capita. Per capita is the amount that we are required to pay the Grand Lodge of Florida for each member of our lodge. It is currently fourteen dollars a year. We must pay this fee for every member of the lodge who does not have fifty years of service to the fraternity. If we do not receive your dues and we keep you on the rolls of the lodge we must pay the per capita for you. We budget our expenses under the assumption that everyone will pay their dues. We need all of our members and we need those who can afford it to send in their payment so that we can pay our bills and stay in business. We have never suspended anyone who cannot afford their dues. But, we must hear from you. If you receive this letter you are still a member in good standing of this lodge. We have paid your per capital for 2008.If you are a perpetual members, we receive five per cent a year of the amount you paid for your membership and we pay your per capita from that amount. We have some members on emeritus status. They do not have to pay per capita. Nuff said. We celebrate George Washington’s Birthday this month. He was born of February 22nd but we observe the holiday on February 18th this year. He was not only our first President but he was instrumental in establishing Freemasonry in our country. Pause on your holiday and think about his gifts to our country and our fraternity. Don’t’ forget to kiss your Valentine on the 14th HIRAM |
